Welcome to Reykjavik

Enjoy breakfast on arrival and then set out with your guide to explore the city, including the Old Quarter and the Open Air Museum, where buildings from across the island have been gathered to provide an overview of Iceland’s diverse architectural traditions. Then check in to the Centrum Hotel where you’ll have time to relax before dinner. From October to April, set out tonight in search of the Northern Lights, one of the most amazing spectacles on the planet! Meals B+D

Explore the Golden Circle

Travel to Thingvellir National Park, a unique geological site where two tectonic plates meet. On the shores of Lake Thingvallavatn, you’ll see the world’s oldest democratic Parliament, founded more than 1,000 years ago! Then thrill to one of Iceland’s most active geysers and the impressive Golden Waterfall. At a family-owned village farm, learn about Icelandic horses and see how greenhouse vegetables are able to thrive in this northerly climate. Meals B+L

Akureyri - Cultural capital of the north

Fly to Akureyri and enjoy a guided tour of the city. Then immerse in the region’s vibrant cultural scene as you explore the Akureyri Art Trail with a local artist, visiting studios and a charming café popular with the town’s many artists. Enjoy three nights at the Hotel Kea. Meals B

Our special excursion today reveals the tastes and traditions of this remote region. Traveling along the scenic rugged coast to visit small villages and the picturesque island of Hrisey, you’ll spend time with residents who are eager to share their gastronomic knowledge as they offer authentic insight into their lives as fishermen, micro-brewers and farmers. Waterfall of the Gods and Lake Myvatn

Explore island landscapes created by geothermal forces including Godafoss Waterfall and the lava formations of the aptly named “Dark Castles.” See the steaming fumaroles of Hverir and an underground river at the Grjotagja rift. Then relax in a geothermal pool overlooking scenic Lake Myvatn. Travelers from October to April will set out tonight on another hunt for the Northern Lights. This northerly setting and the minimal ambient light offer great conditions to observe the Aurora Borealis! Meals B+L

From Akureyri back to Reykjavik

Today’s overland journey offers the chance to experience more of the culture and beauty of the countryside. See 19th-century turf homes at the Glaumbaer Farm & Museum and admire historic Vidimyrar Church. Enjoy a midday break at Hvammstangi Harbor for lunch on your own. In the village of Bogarnes, the exhibits of the Settlement Center offer a look into the fearless Vikings who conquered the open seas to settle in Iceland long ago. Continue your drive to Reykjavik and check in to the Hilton Nordica. Enjoy a festive 3-course farewell dinner at Vox. Meals B+D
