Marvel at Tiananmen Square and tour the
pavilions, courtyards and palaces of the Forbidden City , once the exclusive enclave of emperors. At a local market, you can help your guide select produce for your hosts, a family you’ll join for lunch. Explore by rickshaw through one of the city’s few remaining hutong districts. DAY 3 | The Great Wall + Summer Palace Ascend by cable car to explore atop the Great
Wall at Mutianyu. With its more remote mountain setting and formidable guard towers, this is one of the most impressive sections of this ancient structure! After lunch at the famous Brickyard Restaurant, you’ll tour the splendid Summer Palace , erstwhile seasonal retreat of China’s royalty. meals b+l
DAY 4 | Yangtze Cruise
Tour the Temple of Heaven and enjoy our private lesson with a Tai Chi master. Fly to Yichang and transfer to the pier to board the MS Yangzi Explorer, China’s finest small ship. Settle in to your balcony stateroom before an elegant dinner with wine. meals b+l+d
DAY 5 | The Mighty Three Gorges Dam Visit the Three Gorges Dam and learn about the impact this engineering marvel has had on the region. Return to ship and cruise through the lovely Xiling Gorge. meals b+l+d

DAY 6 | The Yangtze Gorges
Journey by sampan up Shennong Stream into a magnificent region of clear rushing waters, dense forests and towering rock formations. Back onboard, thrill to the dramatic cliffs of Wu Gorge before navigating through Qutang Gorge, narrowest of the river’s Three Gorges. Later, you can enjoy a demonstration of Chinese arts and crafts. meals b+l+d
DAY 7 | Tailor your shore excursion Enjoy your choice of included tour: Visit the White Crane Ridge Underwater Museum to see now submerged rock carvings from the Tang Dynasty. Or visit the 816 Underground Project, a military installation initiated in the 1960’s and kept top secret until 2002. meals b+l+d
DAY 8 | Fly to Xian
Visit the Pandas in Chongqing Zoo and fly to Xian, China’s ancient capital, where you’ll be escorted to the 5-star Hilton Hotel. meals b+d
DAY 9 | Discover the Terra Cotta Army Meet an archaeologist for a briefing before
your tour of the Terra Cotta Army . Then feel the ancient rhythms of the Silk Road as you explore an exotic local market. Savor traditional dumplings for dinner. meals b+l+d
DAY 10 | Fly to Hangzhou
Fly to Hangzhou and visit a working tea plantation – joining farmers in their fields to learn how their famed Dragon Well tea
