The Damaraland Camp is situated in the Huab River Valley amidst desert plains, ancient valleys and the soaring peaks of the nearby Brandberg Mountains. This morning’s game drive takes you into these mesmerizing landscapes to observe desert-adapted species including elephant, springbok, gemsbok and kudu. With luck, you might even encounter lion, cheetah and the rare black rhino. You will also visit the ancient rock art site at Twyfelfonteinc, a UNESCO World Heritage Site where thousands of animal figures were etched into the rock face by the late Stone Age hunter-gatherers who lived here millennia ago.
In the afternoon, join local residents and learn about the Torra Conservancy, an excellent example of sustainable tourism. This specially-arranged cultural visit with members of the local community provides unique insight into how tourism is being developed in Namibia to benefit both the environment and the indigenous peoples.
