Into the Selous Game Reserve

Thrill to breathtaking aerial views as we fly you deep into Africa’s largest reserve for a 3-night stay on the Rufiji River at the exceptional Sand Rivers Camp. Undisturbed by human impact and hailed as one of the Continent’s wildest and most remote reserves, the numbers alone are staggering: 70,000 elephants, 120,000 buffalo, 4,000 lions and 40,000 hippos tell just a part of the story! Over the next 3 days, our safari guides will take you on game drives into pristine areas of the reserve far from other visitors, on wildlife viewing walks deep in the bush, and onto the Rufiji River to navigate through the hippo and crocodile-filled waterways.  Meals B+L+D

On Safari in Selous

Hailed by UNESCO as an ‘immense sanctuary’, today’s safari expeditions reveal more of the game reserve’s diverse habitats. Encompassing woodlands, riverine forests, swamps and open grasslands, Selous is hailed as a living laboratory for ongoing natural phenomena including significant predatory/prey relationships. Near the top of the food chain, you’ll find the continent’s largest lion population as well as thriving packs of wild dogs and numerous leopards. Impala, kudu, eland and other herbivores are ever on the alert for these first-rate hunters. This dramatic drama between predator and prey merely adds excitement to today’s privately-guided game viewing adventures.  Meals B+L+D

Another Day on the Reserve

Arise to another day deep in the Selous Game Reserve here at our safari camp overlooking a wide curve in the Rufiji River. Another day of expertly-guided safari adventurers might find you heading upriver into Stiegler’s Gorge where you’ll often see sand banks swarming with crocodiles and towering boulders draped with monitor lizards. By land, our informative and sharp-eyed guide will enhance your wildlife-viewing with their deep knowledge of the Reserve’s animals and their ongoing struggle to survive and thrive.

Back at Camp, you might also visit the nearby hide. Raised on stilts overlooking a large wetland, it’s the perfect place to observe the many animals that gather here including elephant, giraffe and a kaleidoscopic variety of birds.  Meals B+L+D

Day
5

Fly to Tarangire National Park

Take to the skies again over Tanzania’s wilderness landscapes on your flight to Arusha, and then continue overland to Oliver’s Camp deep inside Tarangire National Park. Situated on a sandy ridge overlooking two surrounding marshes, this secluded and private setting is known for the huge herds of buffalo, zebra and wildebeest that come here to quench their thirst.  Meals B+L+D

Day
6

Tarangire National Park

Join our expert safari guides for an unforgettable day of game-viewing expeditions here in this remote and uncrowded southern sector of spectacular Tarangire National Park. Against a captivating backdrop of rolling plains punctuated by Baobab trees, you’ll find large herds of elephants and fierce feline predators competing for the wide range of mammals that graze throughout the Park. Wildebeest, zebra, buffalo, giraffe, impala and warthog are among the many species that you might check off your list today.  In addition to game drives, Oliver’s Camp holds a special license for walking safaris - bringing a uniquely intimate perspective to your exploration through Tarangire.  Meals B+L+D

Day
7

Onward to Ngorongoro

Setting out from our camp this morning, you’ll skirt the shores of Lake Manyara en route to Exploreans Ngorongoro Lodge where 20 stylish suites offer easy access for game viewing on the Crater floor. Set on more than 50 acres of untouched Tanzanian countryside, your spacious accommodations here at the Lodge include a private viewing verandah, stylish furnishings and a fireplace. Meals B+L+D

Day
8

Ngorongoro Crater

There is no place like this anywhere else in the world. Ngorongoro truly offers an absolutely unique environment for wildlife viewing. First, you won’t see any giraffe or impala inside the crater; though they would love to graze the abundant vegetation, these delicate-legged animals find it nearly impossible to navigate their way down the steep cliffs. But because it is so enclosed and the crater floor is mainly open grassland, this conservation area is easy for game officials to patrol, and the result is a healthy population of endangered species like the Black rhino and cheetah. It’s like a giant fishbowl, and this morning’s private game drive across the crater floor will be amazing!  Meals B+L+D

Day
9

Into the Serengeti

Set out this morning and travel to Olduvai Gorge where more than a century of research has produced a stunning wealth of paleo-anthropological data about the evolution of early humans. Here amidst the expansive vistas of the Great Rift Valley, you’ll learn about the Gorge’s most famous findings, the 1.8-million-year-old fossil discoveries of Louis and Mary Leakey.

Continue into the vast sweep of the Serengeti and check in to the exceptional Lemala Ewanjan Camp where you’ll find 12 beautiful, tented suites set within the game-rich Seronera Valley in a secluded sector of the Central Serengeti. Enjoy lunch and a private afternoon game drive with our expert safari guide.  Meals B+L+D

Day
10

On Safari in the Serengeti

The Seronera Valley is renowned for its exceptional year-round game viewing due to its abundance of water as well as a large population of resident cats. Between April and June and again between November and January, large herds of wildebeest arrive in search of food and water - turning the area into a virtual amphitheater for exceptional wildlife viewing! Accompanied by our experienced and engaging safari guides, you’ll enjoy morning and afternoon game drives in the heart of the Serengeti.  Back at Camp, you can take in the wilderness views from your private viewing deck or join your fellow guests in the stylish mess tent – decorated with leather sofas, chandeliers and a bar with complimentary house drinks.  Meals B+L+D

Day
11

Onward to the Northern Serengeti

The Maasai call it Siringitu – ‘the place where the land moves on forever.’ Indeed, as you travel this morning across its wide-open expanses, you’ll be captivated by its awe-inspiring natural beauty. But the Serengeti is of course renowned for its amazing concentration of wildlife, so today’s drive is not merely a transfer from one luxury camp to another; your journey into the northern reaches of the Serengeti encompasses another game drive and additional opportunities to observe its myriad species.

Arriving in the Wogakurya Hills, on the Tanzanian side of the nearby Mara River, you’ll check in to the lavish Lemala Kuria Hills Lodge. Set in a landscape of large boulders and magnificent kopjes, our stylish retreat offers just 15 glass-fronted tented suites each with a stylishly-furnished verandah and private plunge pool.  Meals B+L+D

Day
12

Private Game Drives in the Serengeti

The Serengeti is unequalled for its abundant natural beauty and renowned for its extraordinary concentration of plains game – including of course the Big Five! Setting out in your own private safari vehicle with an experienced driver and expert safari guide, you’ll enjoy morning and afternoon forays across these vast plains. Back at camp, you can relax on your verandah, refresh in your private plunge pool or join fellow adventurers for a complimentary house drink as you take in the spectacular views.  Meals B+L+D

Day
13

Another Thrilling Day in the Serengeti

The enormous variety of exotic birds, horned bovines, ungulates, wild dogs and big cats that roam these vast expanses of the Serengeti is truly mindboggling. And today’s privately-guided safari expeditions offer more opportunities to take it all in – at any time of year!

During August and September, our Camp’s privileged setting close to the Mara River puts you within the main corridor of the Great Migration. This is one of the best places to witness this annual spectacle as millions of zebra and wildebeest (and their predators!) arrive here in the northern Serengeti to ford the Mara River in search of more verdant grazing lands.  Meals B+L+D

Day
14

Fly to Arusha

This morning you’ll be escorted to the airstrip for your included flight to Arusha. On arrival, we’ll take you to Shanga River House, a pioneering community partnership that trains and employs people with disabilities to create high-quality handmade jewelry, glassware, textiles and other goods using mostly recycled materials. These products are sold throughout Tanzania and around the world, generating profits which are reinvested to further uplift these skilled artisans and the surrounding community. It’s a tranquil setting and your luncheon here allows us all to help the enterprise and its members. It’s a delightful way to give back to the community. After lunch, you’ll be transferred to Kilimanjaro Airport for your onward flight.  Meals B+L
