I have travelled a great deal over the past 12 years and I can say unequivocally that this trip to Japan was the best tour I have ever taken. This tour was a graduation present to my eldest grandchild, who has recently completed high school and who never had been out of the country previously and therefore I was concerned about safety, moving around the country, I expected to be part of a tour with others who move in a pack, but found instead that I had the equivalent of my own concierge service. I was provided with a detailed, clearly stated itinerary, English speaking guides that provided tickets, accompanied us to each destination and ensuring that we boarded the right trains, buses, etc. on both ends of every tour we took. The accommodations were superb, the service was unparalleled. In one instance, I had left a necklace in a hotel bathroom in Hakone and was on the platform of the bullet train heading to Kyoto when I realized this. As I mentioned it, the guide, took the information of my room number and my new destination and two days later my necklace was received at my hotel in Kyoto. I believe this was over and above the call of duty. The necklace held sentimental value, but not necessarily monetary value and I was astounded at her service to me. Additionally, we had planned a couple of extra tours that were not on your advertised list. They were well placed in the itinerary and were always on time, well planned and informative. Each tour gave plenty of time for a bit of self exploration.

I absolutely love the fact that Alexander and Roberts and particularly Melanie create my dream vacations based on my needs, their expertise and my budget. The amount of places I was able to visit and enjoy within my budget makes working with this company a must! I loved my guides who were each experts in their own ways with various styles and personalities. In Beijing I was completely delighted by my guide who took me to some wonderful restaurant where I had local beer and dishes, we climbed the great wall (walking it is not quite an accurate description lol) and he even went out of his way to take me to a traditional tea ceremony which I loved. I was in an incredible hotel (Regent Beijing) walking distance to all the action and wonderful shops and malls. My private driver was an expert in navigating the sometimes scary driving that occurred in Beijing and I was incredibly comforted by that fact. In Xian my guide was very energetic and funny. We had a great time visiting the Terra Cotta Warriors together and I enjoyed the history behind this wonderful site. In Hangzhou, I was impressed by my hotel (JW Marriott). It was beyond what I had imagined it would be. Again, in the middle of the action and walking distance to a lovely restaurant where we had our dinner. I visited West Lake (boat ride), and I really enjoyed that. I loved visiting China for the first time and going back to Japan but with the ability to see something completely different than the first time. In Japan I stayed at the Keio Plaza once again and it felt like returning home. This time around I went to Shirakawago, Kanazawa and Takayama. My guide was incredible and full of little anecdotes and history of the places we visited. I really enjoyed her company and was lucky to have her for 3 days at all these different locations. I absolutely adore Japan and Alexander and Roberts have done an incredible job setting all this up for me. I took such incredible pictures in China and Japan, I know I will cherish forever. Alexander and Roberts and the guide they work with really take the headache out of planning and make it easy to just relax and enjoy yourself. All I have to do is look picture pretty and show up. I highly recommend them and I am so grateful for Melanie Delworth who is an incredible Concierge and has made all my trips an experience to remember.
