Upon arrival at the airport, you’ll be warmly greeted and escorted by private car to your choice of hotel: The comfortable Stok Palace or the first class Grand Dragon. The rest of this day is unplanned, allowing you to rest and acclimate to the city’s high altitude [Note: Leh is close to 11,500 feet above sea level]. Meals L,D

Your excursion into the Leh Valley reveals spectacular vistas of snow-capped Himalayan peaks and includes the historic Stok Palace. Built in 1825 for the King of Ladakh, this striking palace is famous for its beautiful gardens and a fascinating collection of royal memorabilia, including coronation gowns and priceless glittering crowns. Before returning to your hotel in Leh, you’ll also visit the remote, high-mountain village of Saboo.  Meals B,L,D

Mountain-bound and isolated from the rest of the world behind sheer walls of rock and ice, Ladakh encompasses the highest inhabited land in the world. And here in this remote mountain region, rich traditions of Mahayana Buddhism still flourish in their purest form, as they have for centuries. Day 4: Overland into the Nubra Valley

Check out from your hotel in Leh this morning and embark on an unforgettable half-day journey across the awesome Khardung La. At more than 17,500 feet in elevation, this is reputed to be the highest, motorable mountain pass in the world! Your destination is the Nubra Valley, where you’ll enjoy a 2-night stay at the comfortable Karma Inn in Hundar.  Meals B,L,D

Day 5: Exploring the Nubra Valley

Although one’s first impression of the broad and flat Nubra Valley might be one of arid desolation, the region is actually considered prime agricultural land here in Ladakh. Laced by the winding channels of two high-mountain rivers, the Nubra Valley is dotted with fruit orchards and remote farming villages as well as ancient monasteries and palace ruins! Today, as you explore the timeless village of Sumoor and the Samstanling Monastery, you’ll learn much from your guide about the enduring ways and Buddhist culture of this high-mountain land.  Meals B,L,D

After a leisurely breakfast at the Inn, set out with your private car, driver and guide for the return journey to your hotel in Leh.  Meals B,L,D
