Upon arrival at the airport, you’ll be warmly greeted and chauffeured to your choice of deluxe or luxury accommodations. All of our hotels have been carefully selected for their attentive service, evocative ambience and terrific city-center locations.

Surrounded by rivers and mountains, the enchanting town of Luang Prabang is filled with historic temples and fine Colonial architecture. It has a tranquil, old world charm which is vanishing in other parts of 21st-century Asia. This morning, you’ll join your private guide to explore the city’s highlights – starting with a tour of Wat Xieng Thong, a beautiful temple with dramatic architecture and exquisite gold-stenciled murals. Continue to the National Museum; housed in the former Royal Palace, its carefully curated collections of Buddhist art and other cultural artifacts offers deep insight into the rich heritage of the Laotian people.  Then ascend Mount Phousi for panoramic views over the city and its picturesque mountain backdrop.

In afternoon, you’ll journey by boat up the Mekong River to visit the sacred Pak Ou Caves, where you’ll see thousands of Buddha images that have been brought here by local residents since the 16th century. Before returning to your hotel, you’ll stop by a small riverside village to see skilled weavers and the remarkable textiles which they create on their generations-old looms.  Meals B

Early this morning you might be awakened by the reverberating gong of a nearby temple. With your personal Laotian guide offering insight, you’ll join city residents in the quiet streets for their daily alms ritual. As a procession of young saffron-robed monks files past, you and those around you will place sticky rice and other foods into their bronze bowls. This is an ancient Buddhist tradition that still occurs daily throughout Southeast Asia.

Return to your hotel for breakfast, and then travel to Kuang Si Waterfall, where terraced pools and cascades provide the idyllic setting for a refreshing dip surrounded by the lush beauty of the countryside. This afternoon, you’ll visit Ock Pop Tok - the East Meets West Living Crafts Center. Founded to empower local women and to preserve traditional Laotian handicrafts, especially weaving, this unique community project is set in charming house on the banks of the Mekong. You’ll have ample time to engage with the women and to watch as they work their looms, creating fine textiles with both traditional and modern designs. You can hand-dye a scarf and even try your hand at spinning and weaving. From silk cultivation to finished product, you’ll gain insight into one of Laos’ most venerated arts. Before returning to your hotel for a free evening, you can enjoy a sunset cocktail in the pleasant garden cafĂ© of the Living Crafts Center.  Meals B
