  • Day 1 – Welcome to Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam

On arrival, you’ll be met and escorted to your choice of hotel: The deluxe InterContinental Asiana or the luxury Park Hyatt Saigon. The rest of this day is yours to relax and explore as you wish.
  • Day 2 – Saigon… Past + Present

After breakfast, your personal guide will be waiting to show you the history and modern-day life of this bustling city. Your exploration begins with some of Saigon’s most famous Colonial-era landmarks including the Central Post Office and Opera House. Continue with a guided tour through the Reunification Palace; formerly known as the Presidential Palace, it was towards this modern building that communist tanks rolled on the morning of April 30, 1975 – as Saigon fell. From the 3rd story, you’ll have a lovely view across the Palace grounds and gardens.

Nearby, the War Remnants Museum offers a penetrating look into the ravages of war as seen through the eyes of the Vietnamese people. US military vehicles and infantry weapons are on display on the museum grounds. Then join city residents at the bustling Ben Thanh Market as they go about their daily shopping. At the Mandarin Restaurant, your freshly prepared lunch of Vietnamese specialties is accompanied by a lively cooking demonstration.

In the afternoon, our guided cyclo adventure is the best way to explore the colorful winding lanes of Chinatown and to see its unique landmarks including Cha Tam Church and Chua Ong Pagoda. Then step off to explore an herbal medicine market as our in-the-know guide answers questions and offers insight into traditional healing techniques. End your sightseeing atop the striking Bitexco Financial Tower – sipping a cocktail as you enjoy an unrivaled view of the sun setting over Saigon.  This evening, you’ll enjoy the outstanding cuisine and evocative ambience of Hua Tuc.  Meals B+L+D
  • Day 3 – The Timeless Mekong Delta

This morning’s chauffeured journey takes you out of the city and into the rural district of Cai Be where you’ll board the inviting Cai Be Princess, a traditional Vietnamese riverboat made from native hardwoods and bamboo. Enjoy a refreshing beverage as you venture onto the timeless waterways of the Mekong Delta. Take in the bustling river traffic, witness timeless scenes of daily life along the shores and waterways and enjoy the beautiful scenery as the attentive crew serves tea and fruits to you and your fellow passengers. En route, you’ll step off to visit an old 19th-century home and to learn about some of the local cottage industries that sustain many Delta families. For lunch, we’ve made reservations for you at Le Longanier, an inviting local restaurant set in a Colonial-style villa surrounded by riverside gardens and fruit trees. Enjoy a post-luncheon stroll with your guide along a quiet Mekong canal before returning to your hotel in Ho Chi Minh City.  Tonight you’ll dine at the Ly Club Saigon.  Meals B+L+D
  • Day 4 – Fly to Hoi An

We’ll take you to the airport this morning for your included flight to Danang – where you’ll be met and escorted to your awaiting vehicle for a pleasant drive that takes you past the picturesque Marble Mountains and China Beach. Arrive in Hoi An and check in to your choice of hotel: The deluxe Victoria Hoi An Beach Resort & Spa or the Anantara Hoi An, a luxury resort set in French Colonial-style buildings on the banks of the Thu Bon River.

After time to refresh, join your personal guide for a walking tour in town. From the 16th to the 18th centuries, Hoi An was one of the wealthiest ports in all of Asia – home to Dutch, French, Portuguese, Arab, Japanese and Chinese merchants. Today, it’s a UNESCO World Heritage Site famous for its splendidly preserved architecture and ancient seafaring heritage. Your tour includes Chua Ong Pagoda, built in 1653, and Jinshang Temple – dedicated to the Goddess of the Sea and the protector of seafaring merchants. You’ll also visit the 200-year-old Tan Ky Ancestral House and the oft-photographed covered bridge, built by Japanese craftsmen in the 17th century. A pleasant cruise on the Thu Bon River is a wonderful way to conclude your exploration of this ancient, still lively port.  This evening, you’ll dine on the riverfront at Brother’s Café.  Meals B+D
  • Day 5 – Tailor your stay in Hoi An

Today you’ll be able to personalize your exploration to your own interests and style with one of our included excursions. Just choose the one you like best:

Cycling Adventure + Boat Making Village: A pleasant 15-minute bicycle ride takes you outside of town to the river front, where a small boat will be waiting to take you on a 35-minute cruise. Traveling along tranquil waterways, you’ll venture deep into the rural landscapes of Quang Nam Province. Then hop back on your bicycle to ride through the green paddy fields to visit a variety of small villages – each specializing in unique cottage industries from making rice paper to weaving mats for sleeping and other household uses. In Kim Bong, you’ll learn the colorful history of this ancient village, long celebrated for its boat-making traditions. Cycle back to Hoi An where the rest of your afternoon and evening are at leisure.

My Son : This guided excursion takes you to the ancient capital of the Cham Empire, which ruled over central Vietnam from the 2nd to 13th centuries. Tracing its spiritual origins to Indian Hinduism, the My Son archaeological site encompasses a number of impressive tower temples and some remaining statuary. Lush vegetation and distant mountains provide a dramatic setting for this guided foray into antiquity.

Cooking Class at Morning Glory: Hoi An and the central Vietnamese coast is renowned for its outstanding culinary traditions and regional specialties like Cao Lau – a beloved noodle dish made with pork and fresh local greens. The chef-instructors at Morning Glory are especially skilled and this hands-on group cooking class promises a fun and rewarding experience.

  • Day 6 – Fly to Hanoi

You’ll be escorted back to the airport in Danang today for your included flight northward to Hanoi. On arrival, you’ll be greeted and transferred to your choice of city-center hotel: The deluxe Hotel de l’Opera or the luxurious Sofitel Legend Metropole.

This evening, our in-the-know resident expert will take you on a privately guided culinary adventure to experience the city’s vibrant food scene. Bustling by day, Hanoi’s Old Quarter is equally lively come nightfall as city residents head out to enjoy the many food vendors and cafes that line these historic streets and alleyways. Begin with a locally brewed draft beer and then set out along the quarter’s colorful streets as your guide answers questions and shares insight into the exotic foods being offered. Take in the tempting aromas arising from the sizzling woks and steaming pots and decide which dishes you’d like to sample – grilled meats, vegetable skewers, noodles and rice dishes are just some of the many options. End the night at one of Hanoi’s most popular ice cream parlors and then return to your hotel.  Meals B+D
  • Day 7 – Discover Hanoi

Your comprehensive private tour of the city begins with the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum, an impressive monument constructed of marble, granite and precious woods. Nearby, in contrast, is the simple wooden house where he lived and worked. This morning, you’ll also see the Presidential Palace, a Beaux Arts architectural landmark built between 1900 and 1906 for the French Governor-General of Indochina. At the unique One Pillar Pagoda, you’ll learn more Vietnam’s enduring Buddhist traditions. Then visit the Temple of Literature, founded nearly 1,000 years ago, before sitting down to lunch at Wild Rice.

After lunch, your private sightseeing continues at the Museum of Ethnology, highly regarded for well-curated exhibits that showcase the culture and history of Vietnam’s 54 ethnic peoples. Next up is another cyclo adventure! Traveling along in a traditional Vietnamese pedi-cab is a terrific way to explore the colorful streets of the historic city center, where names like Tin Street and Bamboo Street still indicate the products for sale by vendors – many of whom have occupied the same shop for generations!

At Ngoc Son Temple, built in the 18th century on a tiny island in Hoan Kiem Lake, you’ll hear a colorful legend about an emperor, a magic sword and a giant turtle. End your sightseeing on a high note with a Water Puppet performance, a traditional and uniquely Vietnamese art form which started centuries ago – possibly in the nation’s flooded rice fields!  Meals B+L
  • Day 8 – Hanoi to Ha Long Bay

Our private car and driver will be waiting this morning to transport you from your hotel in Hanoi to Ha Long Bay. The scenic drive is just a few hours, but the magnificent landscapes that greet you upon arrival will feel worlds away from the city… Ha Long Bay is filled with thousands of limestone islands, forested peaks, hidden coves, mysterious caves and emerald green waters that stretch forth as far as you can see. Traditional sailing junks and local fishing boats ply these waters and here awaits our deluxe Paradise Cruise vessel.

Enjoy lunch onboard as you navigate through this breathtaking scenery, passing through Hoa Cuong – a small fishing village – and along remote beaches and uninhabited islands. After stepping off for an exciting, guided cave adventure, return to ship where you can enjoy a cocktail and the spectacular views as we continue cruising through this enchanting tableau of water, land and sky. Enjoy a cooking demonstration with our onboard chef and toast your fellow guests with some Vietnamese rice wine. Cocktails and light canapés will be available before this evening’s dinner in our ship’s inviting dining room.  Meals B+L+D
  • Day 9 – Return to Hanoi + Departure

Arise to the majestic beauty of Ha Long Bay! If you wish, you can join a Tai Chi class on deck before coffee, tea and pastries are served. Then step off ship to explore Sung Sot Cave. The intrepid can climb the 600 steps for sweeping views of the Bay’s unique limestone formations. Back onboard, a hearty breakfast will be served as our vessel navigates back to the pier. Upon disembarkation, you’ll be escorted to the airport in Hanoi.  Meals B
