It was here that Alfonso I was crowned as the first king of Portugal in 1139. Then during the 16th to 18th centuries, Lamego prospered as an important wine-producing center. From Lisbon to the Algarve via Evora

Depart Lisbon after breakfast, traveling in your chauffeured vehicle to the UNESCO World Heritage town of Évora c. With roots dating back to Roman times, this veritable living museum is home to a number of important landmarks including the historic St. Francis Church, the ancient Roman temple, and the spectacular Evora Cathedral. Completed in 1250, this is the largest cathedral in Portugal, and it showcases the transition from Romanesque to Gothic architecture, with later additions during the Renaissance and Baroque eras. After a short walking tour, continue onward to Portugal’s southern Atlantic coast and check in to your deluxe hotel.  Meals B

Discover the Algarve Region

Although best known for its spectacular coastal scenery, the Algarve also offers a wealth of history and culture to explore. Accompanied by your engaging personal guide, your half-day tour will take you back to the Age of Discoveries as you explore some of the Algarve’s most interesting areas. Your first stop is the coastal village of Sagres, where you’ll see the remains of a 15th-century fortress. Continuing along the wildly beautiful Cape St. Vincent, the most southwestern point on the Continent, you’ll come to an impressive lighthouse perched on a rugged cliff high above the sea.
 
Then step into the 15th century in the town of Lagos, where Henry the Navigator supplied his caravels before setting sail for the coast of Africa and launching the Portuguese Age of Discoveries. Lagos offers a number of important landmarks to see including the beautiful Santo Antonio Church, famed for its gilded Baroque interior. Returning to your deluxe resort hotel, the rest of this day is yours to enjoy as you wish.  Meals B
