After breakfast, a full-day privately-guided excursion takes you deep into the heart of the breathtaking Cocora Valley, home to wax palm trees – the revered national tree of Colombia. Towering up to 200 feet in height, they can live more than 120 years. You’ll be welcomed on arrival with a glass of canelazo, a local cocktail flavored with cinnamon. Then explore the valley as your personal guide shares insight into the flora and fauna that thrive here in this unique eco-system. If you wish, you can join in the region’s conservation efforts by planting your own wax palm seedling.
Then continue through the lovely countryside to Salento, a charming town famed for its traditional bahareque architecture. Throughout town, but especially along Calle Real, you’ll find one and two-story whitewashed homes adorned with brightly painted doors, windows and balconies. Founded in 1842 as one of the first Spanish settlements in the region, Salento is also a wonderful place to immerse in the timeless rhythms of typical Antioquian life. Returning to Pereira, you’ll have time to refresh and relax at your hotel before dinner. Meals B+L+D
