  • Day 1 - Welcome to Easter Island, Chile

On arrival, you’ll be warmly greeted and escorted to your chosen resort, the classic Taha Tai Hotel or the exceptional, all-inclusive Explora Rapa Nui.

After settling in, guests staying at the Taha Tai Hotel will embark on an afternoon sightseeing tour designed to introduce the island and its ancient culture, a distinctive blend of Polynesian and South American. This evening finds you at one of the island’s most captivating sites where five enormous moai stand silhouetted against the crimson sky. Enjoy a champagne toast as the sun dips below the horizon before returning to the Taha Tai where your evening is free to enjoy and dine on your own.

Guests staying at the Explora will be able to choose their included afternoon adventure from a variety of excursions offered by the Lodge - from guided walks and treks to cycling trips and sea expeditions. • Day 2 - Exploring Easter Island

After breakfast, guests at the Taha Tai Hotel will set out across this scenic island to explore amazing archaeological sites as our expert guide illuminates the history of Easter Island, its people, and the moai - the enormous stone figures scattered across its windswept vistas. Among the sites you’ll visit are the quarry where the ancient moai were carved and Ahu Akahanga, a large ceremonial platform with four fallen statues.

Our Explora Rapa Nui guests will enjoy their chosen excursion. These adventures are limited to 8 people along with an experienced Explora guide. Designed for a variety of interests and physical abilities, these land and sea tours are designed to enhance your understanding of Easter Island’s distinctive culture, its geography and the megalithic figures that are found across the island. Available activities will depend upon local conditions and may include the following:

Coastal Platform Walk: This easy 3-mile guided walk lasts about 2.5 hours and takes you through the fields and farmlands surrounding the lodge. Descending toward the coast, you’ll have views of various archaeological sites. Once at the coast, there are several Moai that can be observed. This guided tour also takes you to see Ahu Hanga Te Tenga, an enormous fallen moai.

The Moai Quarry: This easy to moderate 3.5-hour walk covers just less than 3 miles, but the trail can be rocky and uneven in some areas. Among the sites visited are Ahu Hanga Te Tenga, the trail that was once used to transport the enormous stone figures, and Rano Raraku – the crater where you can find various moai in different stages of their creation.

Fifteen Moai: Lasting about 4 hours, this easy to moderate guided walk covers more than 3.5 miles and takes you to Ahu Tongariki. Arguably one of the island’s most famous and impressive sites, here you will find 15 enormous moai standing together on a platform. You’ll also hike along the island’s northern coast for wonderful views of a fishing cove, local villagers, and various archaeological sites.

Seven Moai Bike Ride: This challenging, guided cycling adventure covers close to 19 miles in about 3 to 4 hours. Bicycling along a dirt road, you’ll travel through scenic agricultural areas of pineapple, taro and sweet potato cultivation. You’ll visit Ahu Akivi, a platform with seven standing moai, before continuing along the coast to Ahu Tahai, a spectacular site with three ahu and a total of seven stone megaliths. You’ll ride through Hanga Roa village before returning to Explora along a paved road.

Deep Sea Fishing: Previous deep sea fishing experience is recommended for this 3-hour adventure in a traditional fishing boat. Local islanders will be with you to teach you their ways of fishing in the open seas. Tuna and red snapper are among the typical catch.

Guests at Explora enjoy complimentary beverages, wine and cocktails.  Meals B+L+D

From witty Santiago guide Jose to hiking expert Luke at Patagonia Camp, we learned so much about the city, Easter Island and Chilean Patagonia. At 80, Sandra was the oldest and perhaps most enthusiastic hiker on full-day excursions. We wanted contrast in our 10-days in South America: moving from lively, artistic Santiago streets to Rapa Nui's island serenity, to bracing winds and brisk walks in the Patagonian Andes, we had our wishes granted.
