On arrival in the Argentine capital, you’ll be warmly greeted and escorted to the Alvear Palace Hotel. Situated in La Recoleta, one of the city’s most exclusive, districts, our luxury hotel promises exceptional service and elegant rooms decorated in Empire and Louis XV style.

The Argentine capital is a rich mosaic of Spanish, Italian, German and French influences - in its cuisine, architecture and the spirit of its residents. With our expert guide, you'll explore this delightful city including the elegant Plaza de Mayo; it’s the oldest public square in town and has been the scene of many significant and historic events. You’ll also see City Hall, an impressive Colonial-era landmark, and tour the Metropolitan Cathedral with its grand interior and lavish Rococo-style altar. Adding a unique twist to this morning's city tour, your guide will offer fascinating insight, relating each of these landmarks to the colorful life of Eva Peron. In the afternoon, you’ll delve into the city’s vibrant arts scene in the leafy and upscale Palermo district – filled with colorful murals and vibrant street art. This evening, enjoy dinner and the Tango show at La Ventana, a venue famed for the passion and skill of its dancers and musicians. Meals B, D

Begin your sightseeing in La Boca, the colorful and historic neighborhood where the Tango was born. It’s situated along the waterfront and retains a strong European ambiance thanks to the area’s early settlers, many of whom came from the Italian city of Genoa. The homes and buildings are colorfully painted, there’s always music to be heard, and street performances of Tango are a regular occurrence! Then continue to San Telmo, where the weekly San Telmo Antique Fair hosts more than 250 vendors. Mingle with residents who are out to shop and to enjoy the impromptu performances of dance and theater that make this one of the capital's liveliest events. San Telmo has also emerged as a gastronomic hub making this a terrific place for lunch. Today, you’ll also visit Zanjon de Granados. Discovered in 1986 and dating to the 1700’s, this unusual subterranean architectural site encompasses a network of tunnels and cisterns that have been carefully reconstructed and lit, offering a fascinating look into the earliest days of the city.  Meals B+L

Belmond Das Cataratas Iguassu, Brazil

To complement yesterday’s sightseeing of Iguassu’s Brazilian side, you’ll set out with our guide this morning for a full-day tour focusing on the prime vantage points on the Argentine side of these mighty cascades. At the famed Devil’s Throat Cataract, the thundering waters and towering mist often create thousands of rainbows suspended in mid-air. The vegetation is lush and there are multiple trails to explore the different angles and unique viewpoints. Whereas the Brazilian side offers a wider, more panoramic view, today’s sightseeing immerses you in the Falls’ environment and will make you feel like you are a part of this remarkable force of nature. Together, our complete Iguassu experience promises a richer, more rewarding visit.  Meals B

Discover Lima

After a leisurely breakfast, your car, driver and guide will be waiting to show you Lima’s highlights – starting at the Larco Museum; renowned for its superb collection of pre-Columbian artifacts, your private tour is the perfect introduction to the Inca sites you’ll explore in the coming days.

After a light lunch, continue to Plaza Mayor in the historic heart of the city. Admire the Archbishop’s Palace, easily recognized by its grand wooden balcony, and behold the impressive 18th-century Cathedral. Close by, you’ll tour the beautiful Convent and Basilica of Santo Domingo, built in 1766.

Then spend time exploring the streets of Barranco, where 19th-century aristocratic homes have been given new life as cafés, galleries and boutique. Visit the Jade Rivera Museum, home to the Peruvian visual artist, muralist, technique researcher and constant apprentice.  With more than 20 years of experience, he focuses his work on representing situations of daily and cultural life, through an imagery that embraces the emotions and the spiritual of the human being. Jade understands that the street is a communication tool and that the murals are codes of reflection between the passerby and the wall, with the main purpose of posing questions to the viewer but not giving answers. Motivated by the language of the mural, he supports and strengthens his graphics with a strong admiration for animals and visual poetry. Meals B+L

Fly to Cuzco

After breakfast, you’ll be escorted to the airport for your included flight to Cuzco, the ancient capital of the once vast and mighty Inca Empire. On arrival, you’ll be escorted by private car to the luxury hotel of your choice – where oxygenated rooms promise greater comfort in this high-mountain town. With your own personal guide, this afternoon’s tour begins in the peaks outside of town where you’ll discover the magnificent ruins of Sacsayhuaman. Built in the 1400’s by the Inca Emperor Pachacútec, the massive limestone blocks of this venerated complex were cut with such precision that they fit together without mortar like the interlocking pieces of a jigsaw puzzle! With some individual stones towering more than 10 feet tall and weighing several hundreds of tons, Sacsayhuaman is a monumental achievement of architecture and masonry.

You’ll also visit San Pedro Market, where your guide will offer fascinating cultural perspectives and personal insights into the life of local citizens. Then discover Cuzco’s Cathedral and the other Colonial-era landmarks that line the Plaza de Armas. At the Temple of the Sun and Convent of Santo Domingo, you’ll discover one of Peru’s most fascinating sites. It also demonstrates the rich layering of history here in Cuzco, where a sacred structure of one culture, the Convent, literally sits atop and practically encloses another, the Inca-built Temple of the Sun. Finish your tour with an engaging local bartender and learn how to make the perfect Pisco Sour, Peru’s signature cocktail.  Meals B

By Rail to Machu Picchu

After breakfast, you’ll be chauffeured to the station to board the Vistadome Train for your journey through the Sacred Valley. Sit back and enjoy the views as you travel through this timeless region of snow-capped Andean peaks, quiet villages and terraced fields that have been cultivated for centuries. On arrival in the charming town of Aguas Calientes, you’ll board the coach for the 30-minute ride up the switchback mountain road that brings you to the entrance to Machu Picchu. The fabled Lost City is certainly the single greatest landmark in Peru – and perhaps all of South America. Indeed, little can be written here that would do justice to the breathtaking grandeur of its mountain setting, the enigmatic power and aura that so permeate this ancient citadel, and the unforgettable experience of standing among these ancient stones. And with your personal guide’s illuminating expertise, your visit will bring to life the ancient Inca civilization that built Machu Picchu. After sightseeing, check in to your choice of hotel where you’ll have time to refresh before dinner. Both the Sumaq Hotel and Inkaterra Pueblo are located in Aguas Calientes in the shadow of Machu Picchu. The Belmond Sanctuary Lodge offers a privileged location adjacent to the Lost City and is the only hotel atop the mountain.  Meals B+L+D
