My guides, "Michael" in Beijing, "Linda" in Xi'an, and "Lee" in Guilin--those three in particular, were fabulous. Michael made sure I saw everything in Beijing even though I had a tight itinerary. Linda was so kind when I was worried about my flight and we bonded over family. Lee also was so sweet to me on the chair lift in Giulin, where I was afraid to jump on! Please praise these guides in particular, for as a solo traveler, I really got to know them. They each were special, and all of us around the same age. As for the youngish guide in Shanghai, he gave me a sense of what it was like to be starting out as a young adult there. Being able to share stories about our lives with these energetic and committed guides was a particularly lovely experience.
