We had an excellent first trip to Japan with A&R and left with wonderful memories of a beautiful country. Our tour guide, Yuka, was fabulous!

We loved the trip the From Japan’s Inland Sea to the Alps. The hotel accommodation were great as well as our very knowledgeable guide. Our guide was very knowledgeable on the history of Japan as well as the current events and various stories about life in Japan. We were all ‘awed’ how she could change the itinerary around to accommodate the big typhoon that came upon us. She was organized and always kept us on track. The accommodations were top niche. We enjoyed the Kyoto hotel (Granvia) and its location over the JR railways. So convenient! We had breakfast every day with 4 lunches and 3 dinners. We especially enjoyed the traditional Japanese lunch and the performances and personal interactions with the geisha women. The local hot pot cooking and the sushi making activity was entertaining and fun. And of course we enjoyed the parade of festival floats at Takayama. I will not forget the rides on the bullet trains. Clean, fast and efficient and with reserved seating! What a great way to see Japan’s country side. These were all wonderful memories of Japan and we hope to return in the near future.

It was a wonderful experience in Japan, with a perfect itinerary, and great hotels, even though our sightseeing was interrupted by Typhoon Hagibis, so we could not go to Mt Fuji and Hakone, but our guide managed to let us have some unplanned sightseeing in Tokyo.

Takayama's Seasonal Festivals

With colorful centuries-old traditions, Takayama’s Spring + Fall Festivals are highlighted by a spectacular parade of giant floats, many of them dating to the 17th century with remarkable, ingeniously-animated moving parts.
