Moira from MD gives this tour
We traveled during the final trip of the season in October, and were delighted by the beautiful fall colors, comfortable weather, small crowds and welcoming people. The opportunity to go truffle hunting in Istria during the two extra days of the trip was a true highlight- lovely scenery, great food, interesting history. The influences across the region, including the Romans, Ottomans, Austro-Hungarians and socialists have made for interesting architecture, food and culture. People were warm and welcoming across the region. Our tour director/guide, Lidija, was knowledgeable and interesting. She had great stories and recommendations which were carefully shared without being overwhelming. The local guide in Sarajevo was especially excellent as he shared the challenging history of the siege of the city as well as the best kept food secrets. Self-directed time and meals during the trip were good, with appropriate suggestions from the guides. The one thing to be alert to is that in Zagreb there are strong "blue laws" on Sundays that close most attractions, and there are limited hours for many museums to work around.
