Be a Hong Kong Insider!

Spend an unforgettable day traveling around Hog Kong like a savvy insider with our impassioned guide, an in-the-know city resident. You’ll see the highlights, delve into hidden corners and sit down to a traditional Dim Sum lunch….

Your day begins as it does for thousands of city residents – aboard the MTR. Join your guide on the city’s efficient Mass Transit Railway and ride to the Prince Edward Station. Ascend to street level and explore Bird Street and the Flower Market, local institutions which are still thronged daily by city residents as they have been for decades! Then your guide will hail a cab for a quick ride down to the harbor front. Step aboard the historic Star Ferry, established more than a century ago, and cruise across bustling Victoria Harbor over to Hong Kong Island. As the skyscrapers and hills of the Island draw closer, you’ll agree that this is one of the most spectacular water crossings in the world!

Step off the Star Ferry on Hong Kong Island and dive into the non-stop action of Central, one of Hong Kong’s most vibrant districts. Rise above the hustle-and-bustle as you navigate with your guide along the city’s unique pedestrian overpass system, high above the traffic-filled streets and through the elegant shopping malls of the International Finance Center, one of the world’s tallest buildings. Then step aboard the world’s longest outdoor covered escalator and ascend to historic Hollywood Road, still the heart of Hong Kong’s thriving trade in Chinese antiques and antiquities. Browse the many shops and visit Man Mo Temple, one of the oldest and most beautiful on the Island.

Hop into another taxi and drive to neighboring Wan Chai, much-changed since it was first immortalized in Richard Mason’s famous novel and movie, “The World of Suzie Wong.” This is now one of Hong Kong’s most popular and upscale city-center residential districts, and here we’ve made private arrangements for you to visit the simple apartment of a Hong Kong expatriate, where every modern convenience is ingeniously incorporated into a relatively small space.

A delightful ride aboard one of Hong Kong’s historic double-decker trams brings you back to Central where you’ll see the impressive headquarters of the Hong Kong and Shanghai Bank, designed at the turn-of-the-century by Sir Aston Webb, the architect responsible for the eastern façade of Buckingham Palace. Take a break from sightseeing and sit down to a traditional Dim Sum lunch at City Hall, a venue always popular with busy professionals and government workers.

After lunch, an unforgettable ride aboard the Peak Tram offers great views of Hong Kong’s spectacular skyline. Take your time atop Victoria Peak to experience the panorama that unfolds before you… from the buildings of Central and across Victoria Harbor to Kowloon and beyond.

A taxi will return you to the base of Victoria Peak to catch the MTR back to your hotel. Enjoy the rest of your day at leisure. Meals B,L

Be a Bangkok Insider

After a sumptuous buffet breakfast at your hotel, our private car, driver and guide will be waiting to take you on a full-day exploration of this vibrant city which they know so well. Your day begins at Wat Seket (Golden Mountain Temple). Perched on a hill with panoramic views over Bangkok, this gilded pagoda houses important relics of Buddha and is one of the Kingdom’s most important cultural icons. Your sightseeing continues at Baan Baat, founded long ago as a Khmer community. Today, its highly skilled artisans still use traditional methods as they continue to craft delicate bowls used by Buddhist monks throughout the land in their daily alms rituals. Nearby is Wat Ratchanadda, site of one of Thailand’s most unique structures – the Loha Prasat (Metal Castle). Inspired by ancient Buddhist structures found in Sri Lanka, this unusual 19th-century construction features five concentric square towers capped by cast iron spires.

Your guide will then hail one of the city’s numerous Tuk-Tuk cabs to take you to lunch at the Supatra River House, a lively restaurant popular with locals and visitors alike for its authentic Thai cuisine. Your afternoon excursion along Bangkok’s famous Klongs (canals) reveals the origin of the city’s 19th-century nickname as The Venice of the East. Though there are now far fewer such waterways lacing the capital, it’s still a fascinating way to immerse in the daily rhythms of city life. Your Klong tour continues to the Chao Phraya River where you’ll disembark at Wat Arun, the celebrated Temple of Dawn. Though it’s a steep climb up the pagoda’s narrow staircase, those who make the ascent are reward with marvelous views over the river and skyline.

Your tour ends on the opposite bank of the Chao Phraya River at Bangkok’s famous flower and vegetable market. Though you’re still in the bustling capital, this rural slice of the city is a tranquil retreat where you will find numerous tropical blooms including colorful orchids and beautifully-made floral garlands.
