Day 1: Arrive in Lisbon

Arrive in Lisbon and transfer to your hotel. The remainder of the day and evening is free to explore on your own.


Day 2: Lisbon

Lisbon, one of Europe’s most beautiful cities, lies on several hills along the Tagus River. Your city tour visits Old Town and the spectacular 16th-century Jerónimos Monastery. The rest of the afternoon is free for you to explore the city. Perhaps see the Castle of São Jorge, Lisbon’s state of the art Oceanarium, or the famous Santa Justa Elevator that oversees the Castle of São Jorge, the river, and the famous Rossio Square. Meals B


Day 3: Lisbon to Sintra

Enjoy an afternoon excursion to Serra de Sintra, which is one of the most delightful mountain villages in Portugal. High up on a rocky peak sits the Castelo da Pena, which is a wonderful example of Portuguese architecture from the Romantic Period. See this fairy-tale castle, followed by a guided tour of this picturesque city and experience firsthand the bewitching beauty that inspired poets such as Lord Byron. Meals B


Day 4: Lisbon - Fatima - Porto Embarkation

After breakfast, enjoy a scenic drive through the countryside to Porto. Stop along the way and spend several hours in Fatima, renowned for its Basilica shrine dedicated to the Virgin Mary. Explore the town and enjoy lunch on your own before continuing to Porto to embark the ship. Gather on board tonight for your Welcome Dinner. Meals B,D


Day 6: Porto - Bitetos - Caldas de Aregos

This morning, enjoy sail away mimosas as you depart Porto for Bitetos. You will enjoy a delightful lunch at the 14th-century Alpendurada Monastery in Bitetos. Mid-afternoon, your ship departs for Caldas de Aregos, where you will overnight. Meals B,L,D


Day 7: Caldas de Aregos to Regua

This morning, an excursion takes you to the historic town of Resende. Located on the slopes of the Serra do Montemuro, Resende provides beautiful views of the Douro. Afterwards, you will cruise through the Douro landscape as your ship continues to Régua. This evening, a Portuguese Folklore Show awaits you on board. The ship overnights in Régua. Meals B,L,D


Day 5: Porto to Guimaraes

This morning, enjoy an excursion to Guimarães. The first capital of Portugal in the 12th-century, it was home to Portugal’s first king, Don Afonso Henriques, and a 2012 European Cultural Capital. Guimarães has been referred to as the birthplace of the Portuguese nation. Dominated by Afonso Henriques’ grand castle, Guimarães was recently declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site due to its extremely well-preserved city center. You will be guided through the narrow streets of the medieval quarter, toward the beautiful main square, the Largo da Oliveira, and then on to the splendid Monastery and Church of Nossa Senhora da Oliveira, the Ducal Palace, and the 14th century Gothic Padrão do Salado. In the afternoon, return to Porto for a sightseeing tour of the city’s 16th-century arcaded buildings, Baroque churches and the magnificent iron bridge built by French engineer Gustave Eiffel. You will then drive through the elegant residential section along the Atlantic coast and explore the Old City. For some modern culture, visit the Boavista area where you will find the Casa da Musica and the museum of Modern Art. This evening, mingle with your fellow passengers at the Gala Captain’s Dinner. Day 8: Regua to Pinhao

This morning’s excursion will take you to the Palacio de Mateus. The palace and gardens of Mateus are located in the beautiful region of Trás-os-Montes just outside the city of Vila Real. In the afternoon, depart for Pinhão. Arriving in the early evening, you will enjoy wine-tasting and dinner at Quinta Avessada. The ship overnights in Pinhão. Meals B,L,D


Day 9: Pinhao to Barca d'Alva

This morning, enjoy an excursion to Lamego for a city tour. Ancient and picturesque Lamego houses one of the most important places of pilgrimage in Portugal, the Nossa Senhora dos Remédios (Sanctuary of Our Lady of Remedies). Lamego’s attractions also include a gothic Cathedral, museum and cafés known for local specialties such as “bola de Lamego” (bread filled with smoked ham) and Raposeira or sparkling wine. In the afternoon, your ship cruises to Barca d'Alva. This evening, enjoy a Portuguese barbecue on the Sun Deck. Meals B,L,D


Day 10: Barca d'Alva to Vega Terron

This morning, depart Barca d'Alva for Vega Terrón. There, you will tour Figueira de Castelo Rodrigo, a small fortified village perched high on a hilltop. See 16th-century walls and walk down very narrow and steep medieval streets. Appreciate the Chafariz dos Pretos, a strikingly unique fountain decorated in black faces which stoically sits in the market square. This evening, bid farewell to your fellow passengers at the Farewell Dinner. Meals B,L,D


Day 11: Vega Terron Disembarkation - Salamanca - Madrid

Disembark this morning and enjoy a visit to Salamanca on your way to Madrid. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, Salamanca is located at the center of the "Castilla y León" region of Spain. During your guided city tour, see the University buildings, the 12th-century Romanesque church of San Martin and the House of Shells. Enjoy lunch in a local restaurant for some deliciously authentic Spanish cuisine. You will have some free time in Salamanca before continuing to Madrid, where you will transfer to your hotel. Meals B,L


Day 12: Madrid

Today, you will tour Madrid, the capital and largest city in Spain. Known for its many historic districts as well as its modern infrastructure, Madrid’s landmarks include the elaborate Royal Palace, Buen Retiro Park, Plaza Mayor, and renowned art galleries, such as the Prado Museum and Centro de Arte Reina Sofia. Meals B


Day 13: Madrid to Toledo

Today, an excursion will take you to the walled city of Toledo, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and ancient capital of Spain. Populated since pre-Roman times, its landmarks include the Alcázar, Cathedral of Toledo and the El Greco Museum. Meals B


Day 14: Depart Madrid

Your tour ends this morning after breakfast. Meals B
